Questions about Arcadia and North Hollywood
Hello,
I'm a programmer that just got a job with a company in Arcadia. I'll be working at Disney in North Hollywood. I lived in San Diego 10 years ago and loved it.
I'm coming from Michigan and even though i've accepted the job i'm having second thoughts about moving. I have a few questions.
Is Arcadia really crowded? I hear it's crowded all over So Cal.
How is it living/working in North Hollywood?
I'm supposed to move Tuesday so any info will help me make my decision.
Thanks in advance.

OK, so the company is in Arcadia but your office is in North Hollywood? Is that what you are saying?
Arcadia isn't particularly crowded - it's a lovely suburban town with a bit of a horsey flavor due to the presence of the Santa Anita racetrack. Stay away from that mall on the weekends, though, if you value your time. Ugh!!! Finding parking is like looking for a needle in a haystack, and you can burn literally hours driving around the parking lot. That's just the stupid mall though. The rest of the town is lovely.
If you are going to need to drive to North Hollywood on a daily basis, I wouldn't recommend your living in Arcadia. That would be a bit of a long commute, and there are plenty of nice places to live closer to North Hollywood.
Welcome back to Southern California!

If you want to live mid-way between Arcadia and North Hollywood, Burbank and Glendale are two areas to look at. Burbank to No. Hollywood can take anything from 15 to 30 mins or longer depending on Traffic and time of day. Burbank to Arcadia is prolly 20 mins.

Arcadia is very nice but the area is expensive, rents are high, with over 70 properties over 1 million dollar houses for sale. There is the Arboretum, the mall is under some construction and expansion,so it's a little crowded. Commuting from Arcadia, you would take the 210 freeway off Baldwin Ave. You will pass Glendale. So Glendale would be a nice place to stay. But Glendale is a very big area, you need to find out where you'd want to stay, there is the Glendale Galleria Mall. Very Nice Mall.

Arcadia is great and there is a lot of rental housing, especially off of Huntington Drive and west of Baldwin. Lots of choices in between Arcadia and Glendale/Burbank and not a horrible commute by socal standards. I would suggest splitting the difference and looking in the Pasadena area which would be an easier drive to either Burbank or Arcadia. Check out some of the recent threads about folks moving to the Pasadena area.

the disney studios are in burbank, just off the 134. i'd suggest, as others have, of living in burbank or glendale.
