The Rapid lines work fairly well. The new one on Olympic between Culver City and Union Station runs only during weekdays but is not loud, not smelly and not even that crowded.

704....They are brand new, 60ft articulated (meaning double carriage) buses.

However, some Metro (Metro-not Metro Rapid) buses DO think, especially buses in the hood where they don't have new shiny 60ft Nabi's.

As someone who has actually lived in other places other than LA, I have to say that LA has some of the cleanest public buses of any major metro area I've been to. Try riding the buses in Baltimore and then tell me that the LA buses "smell" Take the 704. There's nothing wrong with it. I've made the journey countless times and never had a problem. Yes it can take a while, but it's either wait on the bus, or waste away precious gas while sitting in traffic (not to mention paying for parking, etc.) People on this forum (and city-data in general) tend to over-exaggerate a lot, so take everything you read on here with a grain of salt.

You mean they didn't choke to death on the awful smelliness of LA's buses? They didn't have an absolutely miserable time surrounded by thugs and gangsters on that dirty bus? How is that possible, since everything posted on this forum is true, right?

It's helpful when people who actually use transit comment, not so much when people who never use it spew out uninformed opinions. If they'll refrain, I wont' opine about piloting a boat (or a plane).

I remember taking the bus (blue bus if I recall) from Brentwood to LAX. It was fun!

Not too crowded, just people getting to work and back. I think it took about 30min-45min.

I don't know if I'd go all the way to Silverlake to the beach by bus, but if it was the only way I would.
