Smile Attention old time Long Beachers

Circa 1952: What was the name of the drive-in located in the Bixby Knolls area on either Atlantic or Long Beach Blvd.? It specialized in deep dish berry pie. Most kids hung out at the Poly Tom-Tom drive in, but if you wanted to impress a date you took them to this one. None of my friends remember the name - it is driving me crazy! It was north of Russell's pie shop.

Cinema Treasures you can type in Long Beach in the search and you get a few. i looked quickly and on atlantic there was : The Atlantic (pretty fitting I'd say), the Brayton, The Crest, Towne Theater.

LaShell was on LB Blvd. Rivoli was on LB Blvd. too.

I hope this helps. I know how frustrating it is when you can't remember something and it bugs you to no end. Cheers!

Default Drive -in

It was Grisingers and it was at the corner of Atlantic and San Antonio. It is still there under another name but is not a drive in.

The op meant drive-in as in drive-in restaurant, a very popular feature in the L.A. area back in the day.

My hang out was The Wich Stand at Slauson and Overhill.

Thanks Nancy, for the answer, and to Wannagohome for reminding me of the theaters. A couple of years ago I visited the area and took the train into L.A. just like on the old Red Car. We used to catch the Red Car on LB Blvd. and spend the day in LA. I miss the pike and Rainbow Pier and the old village under Ocean Blvd. There was a place under there that made bacon and eggs candy that looked like the real stuff. At the west end of the pike was Shrimpy Joe's where you could get four big fried shrimp for $1. On the pier, the Spit N Argue Club would be going full blast and rowboats were in the lagoon that you could rent by the hour. Long Beach was a wonderful place to grow up in but it has changed a lot. I see the Art Theatre on 4th St. is being renovated but the movies they are going to show seem a little strange. I spent a lot of Saturdays there while attending junior high school at Franklin.
