commute from Culver City to Universal City
hello,
in your opinions, what would be the quickest, least stressful and trafficky commute option from Culver (venice/overland) to Universal City during rush hours, especially in the morning? I do not drive on the freeways, so which surface street options would be best?
Thanks!

Take Venice east, make a left on La Brea, make a right on Franklin, veer left onto Highland. Highland turns into Cahuenga, which will take you to Universal City.

are you the same poster who went to long beach on surface streets a little while back? how did that work out? reaching your current destination on surface streets isn't problematic, but i think you will eventually find it impractical to get around in LA without using the freeways. i know one person who has been able to do it, but she has worked within three miles of her home for over 30 years, and doesn't really drive anywhere else. LA is a huge metro area, and the freeways exist for a reason.

East on Venice to LaBrea
Left on LaBrea to Edgewood (veer to your right on LaBrea)
Edgewood turns into Highland Blvd.
Take Highland all the way to the Cahuenga Pass (Stay to you left on Highland. You either go on the freeway or on the Cahuenga Pass)
Cahuenga turns into Ventura)
Take Ventura to Lankershim and turn right. You will be at Universal/Universal City Commmunity.
I had offices on the Universal lot of many years, and always went this way rather than the freeway which was always packed. Not saying that Cahuenga (Pass) is not packed at times, however it is better than being stuck on the freeway.
Good luck!

Two great sets of directions (though the second is the more direct route). Nothing more to add. Good Luck.

The reason I didn't mention Edgewood is because of how backed up Highland gets around Wilshire since it is only one lane. La Brea is 3 lanes wide each direction during rush hour from the 10 all the way up to Hollywood.

katenik - yes, I am the one who asked about driving from bev hills to long beach airport on surface streets. I took the PCH most of the way and got there in an hour. it worked out just fine and was very easy. some of us just aren't plain comfortable driving on 5 to 6 lane freeways and need to find other methods.
also, i have been using the venice-la brea-franklin-cahuenga route and have been getting there in about 40 minutes! good stuff. much less stressful/trafficky than I anticipated. thanks everyone.
