Exactly. Before I was laid off I worked in a 5-story building on earthquake rollers, we'd feel every little earthquake fairly well. I'd always wonder if I would need to duck under my desk or if I'd feel silly when it turned out to be nothing.
I always err on the side of caution, so there were a few times I ducked under my desk in case something big happened then felt silly. Hey, there's nothing like getting bashed in the head by something heavy to ruin your day! ;-) Then I always go to the earthquake map and log my info into the "Did you feel it?".
I've never gone through an earthquake where I've had any damage _at all_ to my house, but then I'm in Orange County. Thank goodness, though, as I'm apparently quite affected by the little ones I've felt!

I live near Pismo Beach and felt my chair sway just a little as I looked at my computer screen.

Your experience of it will be quite dependent on whether you are inside or outside and if the building/area is on sandy soil, clays or bedrock. And how much water is in the soil under you.
Still, I can't say that I actually FELT this earthquake at all. It was the noise and the rattling of the objects in the room that alarmed me.
They may downgrade the quake...after they examine all the info they often change the size. Check the size tommorrow.

Depends where you are. In a big building, that could be a serious problem. In an ordinary single story wood frame house it's incredibly unlikely you will be harmed unless something falls on you (big screen tv?) or you step on broken glass.
My only concern for myself was property damage because I'm at home. It would have to be the *B*I*G* *O*N*E* to harm people in single story wood frame structures.
I just heard a report on TV that now they're saying 5.4

OHHH I was in Ontario during the Northridge quake - that was fun!
I hear they've evacuated people off the rides at Disneyland

Same here. The building I am was retrofitted about four years ago. They did a lot of new 'X' bracing; and I found out today that they also added rolling dampers. After the quake subsided, the building continued to move from side-to-side and then it stopped...
