Default Culver City to Downtown

Does anyone here commute from Culver City (home) to Downtown LA (work)? How’s the drive in the morning (assuming you leave Culver City around 7am)? I don’t live in the area right now, but from what I’ve observed on Sigalert.com, the 10 West appears worse in the morning than the 10 East. Are more people generally going to the Westside (or hopping on the 405 freeway) for work or are people just kinda going everywhere? Thanks.

The commute is much worse going west in the mornings. However, the 10 east is not necessarily a pleasant commute. From Culver City, you may also consider avoiding the freeway and taking Venice Blvd or Washington Blvd to downtown.

I used to commute from near Culver City past downtown to Orange County. That section of the 10 is not great, but, it is usually functional. Most days at 7am will be fine, but, about once a week at random there will be crazy traffic for some unknown reason.

Like the prev poster said, on busy days Venice, Washington are decent alternatives.

By bicycle, Venice Blvd is acceptable. The Metro bus would be #333.

In a couple of years, the Expo Rail Line should run from Culver City to Downtown.

Thanks, yeah I heard about that Expo Rail, should be pretty convenient.

Do most companies in Downtown subsidize parking for employees, or do most employees pay themselves?

in my experience, the higher the status of your job, the more likely you are to have parking subsidized by your employer. when i worked in a downtown office where employee parking was $200 a month, it was free for me, but my secretary had to pay to park on-site. it's a strange fact of life that the more money you make, the more people are willing to give you things at no cost. go figure!

on the other hand, business do receive tax breaks if they offer their employees incentives to car-pool and take public transit, so that's something to investigate if you're concerned about the cost of parking downtown.

The worst advice I've heard. Just drive down Washington or Venice to DLA and every night enjoy beautiful Culver City.

Yeah, I tend to agree. Living in the West LA/Culver City area seems way more appealing than downtown. Nothing wrong with downtown, it's getting a lot better I think.

As long as I can avoid the 405 on my morning/evening commute, I'll feel pretty good.
