Claremont to Covina Commute
Is it realistic to live in Claremont while working in Covina? Is the commute tolerable? Mapquest says it's a 16 minute drive; is this true? Hope to hear from those who live in the area and are familiar with the commute. Thanks.

It depends on time of day. The 10 is not fun in the morning; however, one does have the option of taking the street from Claremont to Covina. (much better drive) I used to make that drive all of the time when I went to Cal Poly. And I still do when I visit out there.

Thanks for your response. Got a job offer in Covina. I was looking for nearby cities in which to live....Claremont stands out as one of the nicer areas. Alternatives are Walnut and Diamond Bar. Short commute times are very important to me (I work in health care and need to be in the clinic/hospital as quickly as possible). I won't mind living in Covina itself, though it seems the other cities I mentioned are more desirable (with better schools).

You're right, and it does have better schools. You'd be going "with" traffic both to and from work, so you might want to avoid the freeway, unless your work hours are much earlier or later than others.

I lived in West Covina while I went to school and loved it. I wouldn't mind moving back there. Walnut is very nice and is in the district for I-Poly, the feeder high school for Cal Poly Pomona. (It's on the campus) I don't think you can go wrong with Azusa or San Dimas both very close to Covina. It's a beautiful area. If you like green you'll be very happy.

Walnut, San Dimas, & Glendora are good choices for commutes to work in Covina and I believe they have pretty decent schools. Of the three I'd probably choose Glendora, go up as far north as you can afford. "Above Foothill" is a term often used in that area as being more desirable.
Claremont is nice but depending on the time you will be traveling it will often NOT be a 16-minute commute. Glendora would get you to Covina in 10 maybe 15 minutes depending on where in Glendora and where in Covina, without going on the freeway.

You'd want to avoid Azusa if you're sending your child(ren) to public schools.
