my favorite socal beach is Bolsa Chica(state park) which is in OC. Crystal Cove(state park) is also very nice, especially if you rent a bungalow

Ever notice next to no one swims in the ocean in greater LA?

If you see someone swimming in the ocean without a drysuit they usually end up in the hospital afterwards. LA dumps raw sewage directly into the ocean which then washes up directly on the beach.

Yep, a friend of mine told me when she was at UCLA she took some surfing classes for fun, and the instructor told her to NOT fall in the water. She said, "Hello, I'm new, that's probably going to happen." She said one time she was in the water at Santa Monica and saw a dirty (REALLY dirty) diaper float by. Gross......

Way out in the Pacific there is also a flaoting pile of plastic the size of Texas. Hard too believe but totally true. It's the largerst landfill in the world. It's called the Great Pacific Garbage patch and drifts 900 kilometres off the California coast. Its 30 metres deep and a full 100 million tonnes of discarded plastic that swirls just beneath the surface of the North Pacific gyre current.

...lived in LA for 9 years... best beaches are the secluded beaches down in Malibu...some are private, some are semi-private....

.... San Diego's beaches are much more beautiful and locals actually use them

There are some nice tide pools and "private beaches" in Laguna Beach in Orange County.

North of Malibu is nice too.
