There's alot of good people in Huntington Park. I'm a white guy in Los Angeles County. The city is probably around 90% Latino. The gangs and horrid conditions, are horribly blown up to what they are not. There are gangs, and you have to be somewhat careful in certain neighborhoods under certain conditions. The major gang in the area is the Florencia 13, along with the other Sureno gangs. But, I would not be afraid to live there if I was an older white male. A younger white male, not right now, with the increasing racial tensions in Los Angeles County. I hope in years from now, every community in Los Angeles County will be flowing with black, latinos, whites, and asians, all living with perfect peace. BTW, I live in a 99% white community, and I hope it changes, because I enjoy diversity! Tell me a little about yourself, I'm interested in knowing! I'm a strong advocate for good race relations!

Well I llive in Huntington Park, and I have lived here all my life. I am Latino and the gangs are becoming a bigger and bigger problem every year. I love the city and I hope it gets better around here. I think that it is going to be difficult for Los Angeles county to have all these races living in perefect peace but that sure would be great. Tell me what part of Los Angeles County do you live in?

Racism is a product of LA's low wages, lack of law enforcement and horrible school systems. Until the day comes that Angelenos are educated and can support a decent quality of life here-racism will continue. I don't see this happening anytime in my lifetime.

San Francisco's public schools are not that much better than LA's - they're riddled with all sorts of problems - yet the population is much more educated. Maybe it's the better wages and better law enforcement (the SFPD have always been superior to the LAPD).
It would take money and political will, plus a definite shift in the local, state, and national political mood. It would mean that the left wing would have to give up on identity politics and return to trying to improve the lives of average working Americans, and it would have to mean that the right wing would have to become as irrelevant as the Greens are right now.

Yeah, the gangs are a problem all over Southern California. I live in Manhattan Beach, you should take your family and move out of state. I went to Utah to visit family, and many Latinos have a great life there, because the crime level is so low. I am thinking of working in law enforcement for the LAPD, because I want to end "street terrorism." Huntington Park is more serious than most inner-city Los Angeles neighborhoods friend, MS-13, Florencia 13, and La Eme are all in there. There are many good, hard working latinos, legal or illegal, who make a decent living and want no part in that. I believe the area can turn around though, I'd much rather live in South Gate or Paramount. You should move out!!! Have you thought of that?!

Dusesean1986, I hope you can pursue your goal of working for the LAPD. That is an honorable goal. Good luck!

I wholeheartedly agree and support this goal! Dusesean1986 will have to post his picture here on the board in his uniform when he graduates from the Police Academy.

Jury duty in Huntington Park
I agree that Huntington Park has a large population of Latinos. I had to serve jury duty at the Huntington Park courthouse back in 1998, after I was farmed out from the Compton courthouse. By the way, my jury duty service there ended up with a deadlocked jury after we deliberated for four days.

Dusesean,
Good luck should you become a peace officer. I was a Crim Justice double major @ LBSU. I interned for LB Parole & CYA. My Roomie is @ Chino Youth Faciliy & have many close friends in LAPD, some within the area I live in.
Unfortunatly, you will have to become an even better politician than the best cop in order to exact any functional changes within the city govt and the dept. to trickle down to street level changes.
Judging by your posts, I take it you're relatively young but seem already many steps ahead of others, especially others of your age in terms of your outlook on many of our local issues. There are many who don't want to see any changes, even for the better.
