She hadn't been out in a while (she's from O.C. originally), and thinks L.A. is uglier than Houston, and very dirty/polluted in comparison, and way worse traffic with almost no mass transit options.

How did L.A. get such a good image? Because the people who control the movies/media are here?

So what do YOU think of LA? Don't you live there? I was born in LA and a lot of my relatives visiting thought LA was ugly and overrated too but I didn't think it was too bad.

I think it's okay. It is definitely NOT what is shown in movies.

dereistic01: hmm..I guess there are some hills to look at.

No, of course, it's not what is shown in movies. L.A. is a sprawling metropolis with good and bad areas. Unfortunately, the bad is prevalent right when you step off an airplane at LAX. I often wonder what visitors think when the first thing they're confronted with are the strip clubs on Century Blvd. or the horrendous bumper to bumper traffic on the 405! "Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore!"

Well, we hate your mom.

Anyone who uses the movies to come up with a representation of an area needs help. Unless of course that movie is Last Action Hero, then I stand corrected.

I don't like Houston either. I am from Texas, and I prefer L.A. with its good and bad. It definitely has a lot more good than Houston, in my opinion.

That's pretty funny. Houston is not exactly the prettiest, cleanest, least polluted, least congested city around. For those criteria they are pretty similar. I just got back from a week in Texas. Even though I grew up there when I go back the heat and humidity just kill me. Nothing like going for a run at 6:30 in the morning with a tempature of 80 degrees and humidity of 90%.
