No, no no. There are some very nice homes in some pretty nice areas of Los Angeles.

Go to Ziprealty. Search under:

Azusa - my favorite - nice and safe as well
Whittier - my favorite -
La Puente - the cheapest of all of them, a bit more rough around the edges
North Hollywood
Van Nuys
West Covina
Northridge
Reseda
El Monte

All of these cities have some bad areas and some good ones. If you do your research and donīt mind a somewhat high hispanic population you can get a quite nice starter home for more like 225k on a nice family street.

Stop cracking jokes it is totally possible in the market now you guys obviously donīt know where to look.. I could find much better ones on Ziprealty but at the moment I donīt have the time to save the pictures etc. etc.

(17935-L) Great Neighborhood! 3BD. 1BA. This is a perfectly charming house in a perfectly safe and nice area not too far from Los Angeles downtown .. (compartively speaking its not far like Corona or Fontana or Santa Clarita!!)

Bank Owned! 3 Bedroom Home in Azusa Ugly on the outside but perfectly fine inside

Fixer upper single family investor special Whittier is a nice area no matter what some people will try to tell you.

Bank Owned! 2 Bedroom Home in El Monte

Condo Alternative (Bank Owned Home) This house looks fine to me.. In fact I want it! And Reseda is a wonderful area nice sleepy community I scouted for houses up there before

I don't think I've ever heard Reseda described as "a wonderful area nice sleepy community" before.

Hm, I was recently looking at housing in Whittier, and there were some really nice areas. I mean, really nice! But the nice areas were not the parts where you could find a house for $200-350k. More like $550-800k.

The parts where you could get the cheaper housing LOOKED it.

ETA: I have been seeing some amazing prices recently in Covina/West Covina, as well as Glendora and San Dimas. I wonder whether they will continue to fall?

Okay, I have to ask, what is wrong with that area? I looked up the properties in that location and they are very nice. The neighborhood isn't that bad. What could be wrong?

The formal dining room, the sunroom and front parlor have the beautiful woodwork and floors of eighty years ago. This is a biking and walking neighborhood close to shops, schools and restaurants.
