You can buy houses just like them in Santa Monica for $ 1,000,000.
Give or take a little.

I have only been to South Gate and surrounding cites during the day. Never at night. From what I have read and heard about the area, it is not appear to be safe. Yesterday or some time during the week, a little boy about 4 or so was shot and killed in crossfire. I do not mean to disrespect anyone who lives in South Gate.

Thanks for the links and photos. Those are nice houses with low prices. But tiny! I wonder how big the families are that live there. You can get a one bedroom apartment that is bigger than that.

Yes. Thanks for posting the photo! That seems to be a nice 3 bedroom, 1 bath single family residence. I thought I typed $200,000. The numbers I gave were too high. Foreclosure listings and auction prices are usually lower. South Gate seems to be a middle class city. I know a lot of people that live in South Gate and Bell. I would like a house like that.
It is a nice home, but you have to notice there are bars on the windows and the side ones adjacent to the doors.

It is a cute little house. But look where it is. Most houses in that area and surrounding cities have bars on the windows. I might get shot just for being blonde.

That part of town is more dangerous, but, not to a fantastic degree that you might imagine.

It is a pretty neighborhood. About a mile north of there, north of ML King Blvd, is Leimert Park, one of the nicest predominantly African American neighborhoods in the city.

If you look at the LA Times homicide report, it says that there have been 14 murders within 2 miles of that 90043. This is the same as east Hollywood, and can be compared to 5 murders within two miles of North Hollywood, or 4 within two miles of Santa Monica.

For a white person, it seems logical that you would be more likely to be a target if you went there, but, the opposite is true. You are less likely to be a victim of violence. This is because, sadly, much of the violence is between people that know one another, and is for reasons that the people involved would understand.

Well said Mike.

Yeah, the 90001 needs some serious help.

(Edit: how did my comment jump ahead of the post I was replying too? Strange.)

My previous post was about the house with the bars on the windows. Which is nothing new to me having worked in LB and South LA for 10 years. I did not mean to be insensitive or offend people who live in that zip code. (I thought it was 90001). There were several photos. I did like the houses and some of the low prices. When I walk the neighborhood streets where I work, it looks clean and well kept. I have not been there very often at night except when I was attending LBCC. So, I can't say what it is like. Many people including children and babies have been shot and killed in the crossfire. There was one recently this week. Some years ago my friend's father's coworker got shot and killed in either Watts or Compton. He was white and his wife was African American. There are gangs where I live. Mainly uptown and to the south and west of here. In E. Whittier and FH it is safe enough for people to jog or walk with their dogs and children at night. Like anywhere, crime happens sometimes.
