I've visited LA twice before and have absolutely fell in love. I've been looking at apts in the downtown area as this is where I stayed when I visited...is this an affordable area for me?
Hi Nicole
Keep some good diary's of your experiences and when you get old and worn out, like we all do you can rewrite your life history as a screenplay. Then retire to the Caribbean or whatever. OK.. OK, just live your life first.

that pretty much sums it up. anyone who thinks you cant live off 50k a year in LA needs to learn how to live within their means.

Just bitter experience.
But you will have a great time!
If you have the right "mindset" LA and California is one of the best places on Earth.
Just remember that if the negative people did not exist then your success would be so boring!!

It's doable, but you will definitely have to adjust your expectations. I'm originally from the South, and the housing you will get here (even disregarding the increase in rent you will be paying) will be nowhere near what you are used to. I don't say that to be discouraging, but as a coworker advised me before moving here years ago, "Adjust your expectations, and you will be fine."
