Hi,

My husband just got a job in Inglewood. We want to live near there so he can commute. What would be a good area that wouldn't get him stuck on the highway, is considered a very good city by the name itself and has excellent schools? Thanks in advance.

Not Inglewood. What's your monthly rental budget or home purchase price? There's nice but pricey areas toward the coast from Inglewood. Stay west/south of the 405.

With that budget, you could live just about anywhere. Check out the beach cities from Santa Monica down to Redondo or Torrance. Beware the horrible traffic on the west side.

Not bad! If you want to spend all that and have a nice place, I suggest Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach or a bit inland for more economical prices such as Torrance. You probably won't find a place on the beach for $4,000 a month, but you might find a place within walking distance at that price.

With that as a budget, you should be able to find a nice home rental in El Segundo, Manhattan Beach or Hermosa. South Redondo is the nicer of the Redondo area, but you're beginning to extend your commute into the 1/2-hr+ range if your husband is facing rush hour drives. If so, West Torrance is another option. School districts in all three are top-notch. You could also look in Westchester and Playa del Rey but the schools slide, considerably, after elementary. Private schools are also an option.

He's going to have SOME traffic, regardless. But the more north/south the commute, the longer it will be. Depending on where, in Inglewood, he'll be working, Westchester and El Segundo would probably have the fastest commutes because Inglewood is due east. From Manhattan, Hermosa, Redondo, there's more north/south travel. Traffic goes north in the morning and South in the evening.

You're going to have bad traffic anywhere in LA, especially the west side. The only thing you can do is live close to work to minimize the distance.

So, based on what you are saying about traffic..wouldn't Culver City, Ladera Heights, Santa Monica or Palms be close or good areas? Or are the schools not that great? Thanks..
