I moved to S Pas over the summer and commute daily to Hollywood. Usuallly a fairly easy trip; 110 south to 101 North. I could easily do it in 35 minutes, and I never encountered any traffic on Southbound 110 until around the point where one can merge onto the 5.

However, for a few weeks now, the traffic has been horrible, with it often backing up all the way to Marimon Way and beyond. I get off at the 101 every day, so my question is - is there some sort of construction going on past this point that is making the traffic snarl up so much? It's really frustrating, and it seems like leaving earlier doesn't always help.

i'm not exactly sure, but i've noticed since late august when school session resumed there's been much more traffic everywhere on & about freeways, and starting earlier in the afternoon.

Yup, you got it right schools from elementary to college level are back in session. This adds 15 minutes to my daily commute as well.

You might consider Metro. Could be faster than traffic, especially now that schools are back in session.

15 minutes on the Gold Line from Mission Station to Union.
21 minutes on the Red Line from Union Station to Hollywood/Highland (stops at Hollywood/Western, Hollywood/Vine as well).

Summer is over. Back to normal traffic patterns all over the state.

Ah, that makes sense (school back in session). Thanks, everyone. Sorry, but I moved here from NYC and didn't own a car for a number of years. I'll consider the Metro since I used to ride NYC subways every day.
