Default Commute from Torrance to Westwood/Brentwood? Torrance to Westminster? Westwood/Brentwood to Westminster?

Girlfriend recently took a job in Westminster.. I may take one in Westwood/Brentwood... Not sure if its better to get a place in the South Bay and each of us commutes 20 or so miles/or is it better to get a place in Westwood/Brentwood and one person commutes to Westminster(Is traffic a whole lot lighter going south on the 405 in the morning 7am).
Thanks

No,

Traffic is very bad going toward LAX from either direction in the AM. So driving from Westwood/Brentwood to Westminster would be a *nasty* grind of a commute. Of course once past the LAX it would improve a bit. But to be fair to her I would recommend splitting the difference. You will both suffer *some* But not as bad as having one do all the driving - her in this case. That is just too far in LA for a daily commute IMO.

But don't just take my word for it. Try driving from Westwood south on the 405 during rush hour some time. It is not a pretty thing in either direction unfortunately. Coming from th South Bay into Westwood is also a double mess with LAX grid lock, then UCLA/Westside chaos. Sorry, but the traffic is just a part of daily life in LA.

My best advice after living in LA for 40 years is simply this - Forget having jobs so far apart really. Find the *Closest* jobs you can to where you want to live. Kamakazi daily grind commutes just aren't worth it no matter how much they pay you. It is a quality of life issue and LA traffic sucks, always has, always will - bottom line.

South Bay to Westminster shoudn't be too bad however. I used to drive from the South Bay to Long Beach and it was opposite the flow.
