Only been here a week and I'm looking for a good, affordable ethnic restaurant in Hollywood(preferably Thai or Chinese). Can anyone help me out? There's so many restaurants, it's hard to choose. Also, I'm afraid I'm missing the best ones that are probably tucked away on a side street.

Thanks in advance.

Side streets are usually where good places are but it depends on your definition of "affordable".

Try Chan Dara. It's near Sunset across from Jack-in-the-Box.

Thanks...I'll check it out! I know exactly where you're talking about. Over by Amoeba and Arclight, right?

Ive tried Chan Dara at that location and the one on Larchmont. The food isnt really good Thai and are waaaay overpriced but the locations are pretty "cool" hangouts.

If you want real Thai food and not the "falong" Thai, you should try Thai Plaza during the evenings on Hollywood. Or really any of the Thai restaraunts on Hollywood Blvd in Thai Town. You know youre getting the good stuff if you see mostly Thai customers. The places with mostly "falongs" (whites) are usually watered down Thai food.

Once I went to the Chan Dara on Larchmont and tried to place my order by speaking Thai with the waitress. She says, "Oh I dont speak Thai Im Filipina". I asked her if any of the waitresses spoke Thai and she said "I dont think so". I thought that was odd.

For Thai food there's the reliably good Thai Original BBQ all over the city [including Hollywood Blvd & 3rd\Ardmore. There was a great Thai restaurant on Yucca that moved [I can't remember the name - something like Siam] & their BBQ chicken is to die for [anyone know the place?

Probably the best Chinese is in San Gabriel\ Temple City\ Monterey Pk\ Alhambra [esp seafood.
