I just moved away from Palmdale less than a month ago after living there 19 years. It is not the nice little bedroom town it used to be. Since the prison opened, all the trash is moving up from L.A. and the SF valley. I guess if you're moving from a bad place, it may seem very quaint. For me, I'm used to the small town life where people are friendly and say hello and crime is low. Palmdale used to be that way. The west side is better I think even though we lived on the west side in Rancho Vista, it can still get scary at night. I wouldn't go to the mall at night either.
My best advice: Move at your own risk. You might consider Acton, maybe Rosamond, Tehachappi (not sure on the spelling) is very nice. |

I currently live in chino, ca. I lived in hanford, coalinga, broomfield, colo, denver, colo, gilette, wy, and before that santa monica. I think if you are looking for trouble, trouble will find you. If you are not looking for trouble then the same applies. As an adult, an IBEW electrician, I haven't been in a fight in my life since 7th grade. I think no matter where you live if that is the type of thing you are into then violence follows. I am not living in a fairytale world either. I know there is violence all over our country........The idiot in
West Virginia, I lived in colorado during columbine, and i have lived most of my life in los angeles. With all the stupid gang bangers in cities like Pomona and Compton giving the southland a bad name there are no safe places in So Calif. You just need to watch out for where you are at! If you really want to make your city safer then when people see crime they need to take down what people look like and get vehicle id numbers to get these retards off the street. but no one wants to get involved. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to see that there are more people not getting into drama, then bangers getting into drama. |

The scariest thing about the AV is not the people moving up here because I'm quite sure the people complaining about the people know nothing about them and are basing their information on prejudices and stereotypes. Gangs(not just so called bloods and crips but nazis skin heads etc.) are everywhere and they come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Staying invested in our children is the answer so they don't make bad choices. Sex offenders very bad, but I don't know how well they are monitored but the great thing is you have easy access to thier location, and the number of crimes commited by sex offenders in the av as compared to others cities in the nation. The scariest thing about the AV to me is the ignorance & racisim, Everytime a family of color moves into my westside palmdale neighborhood, their house or cars get egged. Their is an underliying threat that you can't go to certain parts of the av after certain hours if you are a person of color because something terrible might happen and considering you don't find crimes reported in our news that actually report crimes aganst a person of color only the person of color commiting the crime, that scary. Then you have people thinking that every on on section eight is a gangmember or bad who doesn't actually know anyone on section eight and considering in alot of peoples min that these are usually people of color , how our these supposed good citizens actually treating people of color. If you look around the nations at communities in trouble those that have gotten better are not only diverse but the citizens come together, get involved with community improvement or some kind of youth program. Instead becoming "...Part of the problem they become part of the solution".

Instead becoming "...Part of the problem they become part of the solution". Yes this community is growing, when any community grows you will find and increase in crime. Start with yourself first if you, represent a positive citizen with a welcoming attitude, have pride in where you live, this becomes infectious, and will spread. The nation at large is not doing well. So we are not by ourselves. But if we make more efforts to work with what we have, maybe you can be apart of making it better. Call you city goverment and ask how you can voluteer, don't just sit there and complain and point out everyone elses faults.
