How is Palmdale?
I was looking up some information about the house market in L.A., and I found new and affordable KB houses in the area of Palmdale. Then I went to wikipedia, and read that the aerospace industry has a big presence in this area since Boeing, Lockheed and Northrop are there. I'm an aerospace engineer, but I really want to know....what's the catch?

Cheap Homes Because of False Perception
Palmdale has its good and has its bad. Their are some gang infested areas, and then some great new housing developments. If your an aerospace engineer you could probably afford the nicer communities of Palmdale. The aerospace industry produces alot of jobs in the area. The area is considered a mini-desert, with Los Angeles only an hour away without traffic. The city has about 130,000 people, approxiametly the same as its sister city Lancaster. The summers average mid 60's to 95 with dry heat, while the winters are high 20's-low 30's to mid to upper 50's, while still a dry cold. Alot of people can get a huge home in this area for cheaper, rather than closer to the city of Los Angeles. Some streets look almost abandoned, while others are very vibrant. The wind can pick up in the area quite a bit, and there is little rain. The schools are pretty bad, even though I'm thinking some are private. Where exactly are you coming from?! The catch is this, people have a quite twisted notion that Palmdale is kind of alone by itself and the weather is poor compared to L.A. standards, and if your not hooked to the aerospace industry, you might have to make the long commute into the city of Los Angeles for your job. Make sure you receive information on areas though, some families move out of the Los Angeles area to get their kids out of gangs, and unfortunately the problem is still their with the child.

I live in Orlando now (hence my username), but I have always wanted to live in California. Geographically, no other state can hold a candle to it. The economy is the best in the country. I'm also into music, and California has spawned the best bands from any possible genre. I'm originally from the Caribbean, so the weather and the beaches (even though they are not that pretty) are a plus. I like the progressiveness of the state and the fact that every trend originates in California. Florida has a healthy aerospace industry, nice weather and beautiful beaches, but it still has too much of a southern culture, and the house market sky rocketed for no apparent reason other than people with money are moving to the area. I don't care about schools too much because I don't have kids, but I do care about arts, theatre and museums, and stuff like that. I bet there's not much of that in Palmdale, but at least is close to L.A…..is that right?

Everything you can think of, we have it in Los Angeles. Bands, Art, Surfing, Skating, Tattoos, Snowboarding, A Gazillion Museums, A decent Zoo, Fashion, theatre, The Most Diverse Food. Palmdale is basically an hour to Downtown Los Angeles without traffic, and probably a little over two hours with traffic. Your right Palmdale doesn't have the same attractions, their is a great amusement park 30 minutes in Santa Clarita Valley named Magic Mountain, there's at least ten great rollercoasters, they sell annual passes. If you like rain, unfortunately we don't get much. You'll probably notice Los Angeles to be brown and yellow rather than the dark green of Florida. You folks have humid heat while we have dry, depending on peoples likeness. Anymore questions guy?! You don't have to live in Palmdale, you could live somewhere else, your commute would be short to Palmdale because of the lack of jobs compared to Los Angeles.

It's Cheap
People move to Palmdale because they can't afford a house anywhere else.

If you have the money look into Acton about 12 Mi. south of Palmdale.
The best thing you could do is come visit the area for a few days. when you see what palmdale is made up of you may change your mind about the place,
Palmdale is a big aerospace area and Acton is only 20 min, away from plant 42.

Not true, we live here because my husband works at Edwards, and he doesn't want to commute over an hour each way everyday. We would have never moved her otherwise. And we have been looking to move out, but unfortunately, there isn't much of a choice if you work at Edwards. And the minute he retires, we are out of here!!!!!

Palmdale Has an emerging Music Scene
This place is soon to become the next agoura. We are close enough to LA to make a difference. Some great talent comes out of palmdale. Make sure you check out nightlife at venues such as Duck & Dawg, Uncle Sams, El Rodeo, The Catus Inn or check for private desert Parties.
Some great Bands in the Palmdale Lancaster area include: Disappearance, The Craze, Aurora Beckons, and also some great Hip Hoo acts like TuggBoat or Eskae Ent.

Before Palmdale could become the next Agoure alot of gangs and gang typs and all the crime would have to leave the area. I am sure you know this.
The Catus Inn as you know is a good place to get shot or stabbed!!

loooooooooooooool!!! Palmdale the next Agoura!!! My God!!! Wheres the proximity to Malibu beaches and the Hills?? wheres the good weather?? Where are the riding horses and biker trails???
Agoura median income is above 90.000, and people there are white-collars, less of 2% black people, more latinos and asians or higher income....Agoura is the californian dream made truth, one of the few paradise still reamaining within LA County, only 35 west of Downtown, so private and public schools are one of the best in the County.
Palmdale, with it twin sister Lancaster makes a population of more than 400k!!
15% blacks, very high to Los Angeles median, 38% latino. Median income less than 50.000, is not bad, but is not Agoura.
But after all, Palmdale is not bad, gangs are in center old areas of latino majority, tension is between black and latinos moving there. If you go to a new development far form oldtown it would be right, lot of land, but no hills, no beach, no a good shopping boulevard, not close to Ventura or to Sunset or to any Los Angeles main attraction, but if you work there it could fit you cos you could buy a huge house for less than in any place of Los Angeles, even in Santa Clarita. If you dont work there dont worth it, conmuting is horrible crossing the mountains.
