Default Play Group /Nursery School in LA

Hi , Will be moving to LA by first week of october 2008 with my family . I have a small kid of age 3 years. Would like to know about play group / nursery schools available and also likely fees charged. Would prefer to look at 3 days a week for my kid.

I think it really depends where in LA. We live in North LA County (Santa Clarita) and 3 days/week, 4 hours per day, costs us about $475/month (about $10/hour that our child is in school). That's about the going rate at the 3 most popular preschools in town.

There are definitely cheaper ones as well, even as low as $200/month for 3.5 hours a day, 2 days a week.

If you're just looking for playgroups or playdates, join your local chapter of the moms club (International MOMS Club). There's also gymboree, my gym, and other "mommy and me" classes (try looking at your local community center/parks and recreation guide).

Welcome to LA,
Do not know much about nurseries, go to meetup.com and there are many mommy and me playgroups depending on your area of town. I am a member of "Terrific moms of LA". Good luck and you are going to need a great hairstylist too, shoot me an email, I would love to do your hair!

Cheers,
G

I hope you're not moving to Santa Monica or Westwood. There is a long wait for preschools in those areas. Getting your little dear into a Santa Monica preschool is a little like getting into Princeton.

Not just SM or Westwood - we moved to Sherman Oaks in February and it was a stretch to find a good preschool for the fall in the area (from Studio City to Encino). We ended up finding a great preschool in Burbank, and have since come to know and love the area... for reference, preschool in Encino at a Presbyterian church runs $560 per month for 5 days, 3 hours per day (ouch). A Catholic pre-K program in Burbank is $575 for 5 days, 7 hours.
