Will I die in Compton? (crime, neighborhoods, safe)

So if I drove through Compton would a gangbanger roll up and bust a cap in my a$$? Would I get car jacked or is it safe for me 2 drive through? I wanna take some photo's and do some interviews with people in the street, but I won't if my life is in danger...oh, and i'm white; but not american. Any ideas?

If the crime is that bad, I wouldnt get near that city. Listen to your intuitions and stay safe

Driving through Compton(during daylight hours) should be fine. I just wouldn't get out and go for a walk.

I would contact the local police department for that area tell them what your intention are and there advice of where you can contact people to conduct your interview. Having myself unfortunately been raise in the projects of Chicago and working in various inter cities I would not suggest going anytime of the day to some of the areas in Compton without proper knowledge from a reliable source. Your intention may be honorable however I would question your judgment, hope this helps.

I've driven through Compton at 8 o'clock at night with my cousin, and I've been perfectly fine. You could probably go to a store, but do not walk through the neighborhoods.

I'd drive through there during the day, but I wouldn't get out and walk around.

what's your level of street smarts? what kind of car do you drive? Do you know the area at all or do you just plan to 'drive around'?

If you are smart, keep your mouth shut and your windows up, stick to the main streets, and you don't look like a mark or a player, and you drive a regular car, you will be fine.

Street smarts? I'm an aussie born and raised in the outback. But, with that said i'm not gonna be a hero when I'm in such an area. I drive a honda element, but I was thinking about hiring an older model Buick or something for the trip. I don't plan on getting off the main drag, maybe just park and talk to people, take some pictures and get out. Won't take any weapons, and will wear neutral colors. Whaddya think...?

Don't wear anything remotely close to red or blue. Especially BLUE. Compton is chock full of Blood gang members. It is a mostly Black and Hispanic neighborhood. The Black gang members over there would kill another black over nothing over there.

I would suggest you go to Compton in an unmarked Police Car and carry a Bible as well.

Keep your doors locked while driving and don't go alone.
Getting out and interviewing - depends on your size and attitude. If they think they can rob you, they probably will.
Getting shot could happen if you happen to be interviewing a group of people that have a mark on their back for a drive by.
The unmarked police car is a good idea
