The Acorn is a decent paper and sometimes gets Calabasas stuff, but they cover it occasionally the way that a regional paper, or even the LA Times, would. They have a Camarillo Acorn, a Moorpark Acorn and a few others, but don't devote one to Calabasas.

And while the Lachey/Simpson team moved out ... Britney Spears just moved in. Goodness.

Agoura is 60% Jewish? not really. It's a mix just like everything else.

You can rent a 5br house in Agoura for half your budget. I know because my parents are renting my old house is renting for $2300 or so there.

To the OP:
Basically, to me, locals consider living in the San Fernando valley and living in the Conejo valley (oak park, agoura hills, westlake village...) a more fundamental decision than which city. The SF valley has great and less great areas, as does the Conejo, the only generalization I'd make is that the SF valley is overall higher density and more city feel than Conejo, though there are exceptions both ways.

Since you're renting, I'd say set up temporary somewhere and explore!

Couple other differences between the SF valley and Conejo valley:

Conejo has vastly superior school performance
In the Conejo Valley, a larger percentage of the developed is planned and zoned to modern and higher aesthetic standards. Included in this are deliberately planned open space. Doesn't feel as dense or crowded. Lots of rolling hills to provide a sense of separation. A lot less ugly power lines and bill boards.
