Default Hotels - USC/Coliseum

Hi, I'll be coming out to USC next fall ('09) for a football game. I've been doing some initial research of hotels to stay in, but I'd like some additional recommendations. I've seen a few hotels listed around the USC/Coliseum area, which would be ideal because of the proximity. But I've also heard that area of the city isn't the nicest. Would I better off staying in a different part of the city and using public transportation to get to and from the campus? Thanks!

It depends. How long will you be in town? Are you only coming for the game or do you plan to visit/tour other parts of the city? Will you have a car? How much are you planning to spend per night on a hotel room?

Stay at the Westin Bonaventure and take the bus straight down Figueroa. That part of Downtown is really nice and clean and a 10 min bus ride away. Look on Hotels.com for the best deal. The place rocks. I love the glass elevators and the Heavenly beds. 145ish is good there.

Thanks for the info! I'll be there for only 2 nights, the Friday night before, and the Saturday of. My main point of being there is just for the game, but I will probably try to get out and see some of the touristy areas on Friday afternoon/evening.

Since your primary objective is only to attend the game, I would agree with Sorcerer68's suggestion that you stay downtown and just take the bus or a cab to the Coliseum. The Bonaventure is a good option, but I would check out all of the options on the discount travel sites like Hotels.com and Priceline.com to see what the best hotel deals are at that time.
