Default What's wrong with Bear Valley Springs?

I see a TON of houses for sale in Bear Valley Springs. Does anyone know why? Anyone who lives there or has lived there?

According to Google, its in the mountains between Bakersfield and Tehachapi. In other words, its in the middle of nowhere. Yeah, I'd never heard of it either.

Default What's Wrong With Bear Valley Springs?

Nothing. It is a beautiful gated, rural community with lots (I mean LOTS) of horses, a golf court, swimming pool, sport center etc. There are lots of trails and it is in the mountains.
The only thing I see that is wrong, might be the fact that the nearest town, Tehachapi, is 15 miles or so away and Bakersfield or Palmdale (for shopping)a good hour drive. It is not easy to find work less than 1 hour from home...that's all. I love it here. But, like many others, we may have to move too and that would add one more house (horse property) on the market.

Gated communities aren't what they used to be. The fires in other gated communities trapped people inside and they couldn't get out.

Nonsense. There's fire codes that require exits accessible by foot. Opening the car gates manually might be tough in the event of a power failure though.

Just heard a story on the news, the people couldn't get out. Maybe it was because the fire caused a power outage.

Odd you should mention that! My daughter, who lives in the Los Angeles area, was just telling me about those fires in the Santa Barbara area and how a lot of people not only lost their homes but also their cars because they had some kind of power failure and the gates could not be opened. Kinda scary. You'd think they would have some kind of generator backup for emergencies.

Or at least a manual override. The typical home garage door opener can disconnect the door from the chain/track to let the door move manually when the power's out. I know gates can be heavy, but there should be some way to disconnect them from the motor and move them.

I have family in Bear Valley Springs. It's nice, but has a very high HOA / local taxes as they have they are essentially disconnected from the services in Tehachapi. I want to say it's over $500 per month but someone here can validate.
