I think you should check your sources before making any rash judgements. Who did you hear this from? Someone you know personally? The best way to decide if you want to move somewhere is to actually GO there for a visit. Spend some time in Los Angeles -- and not just at the tourist spots. Visit some ethnic neighborhoods, go to some of the locations you've asked about, check out the malls, look at apartments.

Meet some people.

THEN, if you like it, you can make plans to move. If not, then you can look elsewhere.
