Returning home
I am trying to find a small 2/1 SFR in the San Gabriel area. I am wondering if the Pasadena 91103 area code is a safe place? And is it possible to find a small house for around $300,000 in the SGV or am I dreaming? I am living in AZ so it is hard to just hang out in an area that sounds good. Any info you all can give me will be greatly appreciated!

Many $300,000 homes are foreclosures, but first you need to find a lender to see what programs are suitable for your needs.Start there first.I can help you find a lender.

91103 is NOT a great zip code. There are fabulous houses there, but they cost $1.2M and up. Then there are things around $300k. Those are in an undesireable area of Pasadena, to put it gently. If you drive around there, you'll see.
The houses themselves are cute, those $300k ones in 91103. Someday they will, no doubt, gentrify. But for now it's a rough neighborhood.

If you want to live in Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley area and want a place for 300k, you might consider a condo.

I am trying to find a SFR because I no longer want to pay out good money to an HOA and I want to have a small yard to garden. Gardening is a passion and HOA' tend to have regulations about everything. Of course HOA can be great because you know that your neighbors won't be parking their car on the lawn or moving the defunk washer permanently to the front porch!
