Santa Monica. I believe it's LA's crown jewel for both visitors and locals alike. One of the most walkable areas in LA, beautiful weather, clean air, plenty to do. Of course, if you want to live there, you're gonna pay for it. Coming in a close second for me would be Venice, Los Feliz, and West Hollywood. I don't care too much for Beverly Hills...there's absolutely nothing "organic" about it. It's all flash and no substance, but who didn't already know that? I'll take Abbot Kinney Blvd and Vermont Avenue over Rodeo Drive any day.

LA has so many great neighborhoods and areas that are all so different and unique in their own way. It's hard to say which is best. That's what's so fabulous about LA. There's practically something for everyone.

Good point. Silver Lake and Los Feliz feel absolutely nothing like Venice or Santa Monica, yet all are important individual pieces of what makes up LA (yeah, I know Santa Monica is technically its own city, but come on). If you want a denser more vertical lifestyle, there's Downtown, Koreatown, and Miracle Mile. If you want the beach, you've got endless choices. Small town life? South Pasadena. And Montrose seriously reminds me of a small town in the mountains of Western Pennsylvania. If you want a more sterile, boring, suburban lifestyle (if you like that sort of thing), well there's the Valley . jk, the Valley actually doesn't get enough credit, Sherman Oaks and Studio City are actually pretty cool neighborhoods.

Precisely. Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and Pasadena for example are all quite different from each other and have something special and unique to offer. But I would choose Beverly Hills to live, not because I think it's better than the other two (in fact I think the residential areas of Pasadena are more beautiful) but because of its central location and close proximity to the areas of town I frequent the most like Weho, Fairfax/Miracle Mile, and Hollywood.

Its hard to say what is the "Best LA Neighborhood" because many are so different and people like different things. I can list at the neighborhoods that I like:

Studio City
Toluca Lake
Sherman Oaks
Encino
Burbank - Although its becoming a lot like Glendale (I like Glendale too)
Woodland Hills
West Hollywood - still one of the nicest areas with nicest people you'll ever meet.
Santa Monica
South Pasadena - and the area near Old Town
The hilly area off the 110 fwy north of Downtown - love all those craftsman homes.
Manhattan Beach
Redondo Beach

Nothing wrong with Tarzana. I went to Middle School in Tarzana at Portola Junior High. Had classes with Lisa Bonet, Tank from the Matrix and Little Earl from Whats Happening and the movie Airplane.
