Nothing and no situation will EVER justify such a barbaric action committed against innocent people.

A lot of people are only one or two paychecks away from financial ruin. This is especially true in the Greater Los Angeles area. Its just such a tragedy that it was all or nothing for this man who would rather murder his family than have to rebuild financially.

Sad...wonder what made him feel as if he had to take his wife and children...Maybe the MIL was a pain in the butt, but a 19 year old son? What I found funny was the neighbor who was quoted saying, "The government should help people like this". Like what? Living in expensive Porter Ranch, over their means with debt up to their eyeballs? Uhh, NO!

According to the news article, they did not buy that expensive house. The owner of the house bought it at 1M and rented it to the family. They were in deep financial trouble due to the father's involvement as a partner in an unnamed holding company. I guess that means bad investment. It's really sad that he decided to kill his family instead of trying to work it out and rebuild their wealth from scratch.

WTF!?!?!
I just don't get it I guess. I hear that alot of suicides are due to financial strain. I don't have kids so I guess I'm really not qualified to comment extensively. However, I can say that I would be homeless on the beach and ALIVE before I would ever end my life. That's just sad. There are tons of people homeless here in the midwest due to factory shut-downs, but not very many people are killing themselves because of it. Is this a new LA trend?

One clue here is that this father was from India. Apparently his victims had PLRA status if not outright citizenship in the US.

In general, Americans tend not to do this kind of stuff, although in the Denver area a few years back some looney Midwestern dad offed himself, wife and daughter inside the cab of their pickup on a lonesome country road, apparently over his wife's inability to stop blowing all their money on shopping trips (she was just doing what President Bush ordered, duh!).

Americans are well aware you can always start over from scratch in the USA, even if you just end up living in a cardboard box under the bridge, sipping cheap whiskey and scratching your posterior to pass the time.

Quote from CNN article: "He talked himself into the second strategy, believing that was, in effect, the honorable thing to do."

=========================

Asians (which include East Indians) are big on "honor" killings. Your life is screwed up, so the honorable thing to do is kill off the whole family so nobody is shamed in society.

How strange.

A similar multiple murder/suicide (father killed wife, m-in-law, and two grown daughters, then himself) occurred in San Clemente last year. However, they were from Turkey.

Embrace the diversity. We need to de-sensitize ourselves to this type of news if we are to properly endorse multiculturalism. It is about honor in some cultures. Our former next door neighbor (from Iran) hung himself when he lost a bundle on day trading - fortunately he left his wife and child alone.
