Hi guys,

we are living right now in Alabama and would like to move to the L.A. Area.

LA's not buggy compared to Alabama. I see more spiders than anything.

We don't have a lot of bugs. New construction areas can have problems with ants, crickets and earwigs but not a lot of mosquitos, etc. We do have the poisonous Black Widow spiders and Creepy Tarantulas. We use Orkin services on a monthly basis and it seems to keep them at bay.

Nevermind the Black Widows or Tarantulas. I was born and raised in L.A. and have never seen a true Black Widow. The only tarantulas I've seen were in a pet store or out in the desert. They are pretty harmless, btw.

The brown recluse is what you want to be on the look out for if you are worried about arachnids. I shook one off the inside of my pant leg and my son had one on his backback as he was returning from the showers one camping trip in the desert a few years ago. If anyone wants to see what a brown recluse can do, click on the link (warning: once you see these, you cannot unsee). This is not for the faint of heart.

Some parts of Southern California actually have fire ants. But overall, little or no mosquitoes, some flies, no June bugs or Japanese beetles.

Well, I have lived here 13 years and have seen quite a few Black Widows in our garage, by the trash cans, etc. We also had a Tarantula outside our back door before we put in our landscaping! Yeah, I know the Tarantulas won't kill you - that is unless you're arachnaphobic and the sight of one scares you to death!!!

I hate hate spiders! I'll be sure if I move out there that the local pest guy comes once a month.

P.S. those images of the spider bites are redicilous.

I live in LA, but grew up in Alabama. There are less bugs here as compared to Alabama I think. You definitely lose the mosquitoes, gnats, etc., but we still have spides, roaches and others...
