Porter Ranch fires...
I'm in Thousand Oaks. About 15-20 miles from Porter Ranch as the crow flies. It's dark and hazy with smoky. The wind is blowing fiercely and white ash is flying through the air. A layer of it is covering the pool. All the windows are closed but the smell of smoke is seeping inside. Fire season is just the worst. When I leave California it's one thing I will not miss.

This is my favorite tool for observing surface winds. Remarkably, the smoke is being picked up as clouds from the radar return.

Mandatory evacs ordered for Box, Woolsey and Bell Canyons. If it gets down in there it'll be at the 101 in the Agoura Hills area before you can blink an eye.

Thoughts and prayers to you folks out there and in getting people and animals moved and that fire out safely.
I used to live in Chatsworth.

I work in Woodland Hills, and the smoke has been miserable. I can only imagine what it must be like even closer to the fires. I hope the wind will die down soon and give the poor firefighters a break!

I'm here living in Chatsworth near Chatsworth park. It's miserable. There's a voulentary evac as of now b/c the closeness of the park and brush. But the homes at Twin Lakes, I've heard are not well. They're the homes that overlook the SFV just north of the 118. The 118 is completely shut down. The smoke has lighten up and we can see the sun. But all that can change tonight! KTLA is saying the winds will be maintaining their speed.
