Great list, Knox!
To the OP: If you are flying into LAX, you can make a side trip to the beach straight from the airport. Manhattan Beach is very nice, and very near the airport. If you have more time for beaches, I like the beaches in Orange County too. If you want more of a boardwalk-type festive atmosphere, for a beach that can be found only in LA, go for Santa Monica or Venice. There are several beach threads on this board - if you search you will find.
Are you spending one day at Disneyland and one day at Universal Studios? If so, does that leave you two full days to spend in LA, or two half-days?
Other things you might want to see - depends on your interests. Do you want movie-star stuff, nature, or high culture? Shopping? It's all here. Knoxtown gave you a great short list...

Some nice beaches happen to be Manhattan Beach, Seal Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Redondo Beach, and gorgeous Moon Beach which is out side of LA. I also really enjoy Hermosa Pier. I like Venice beach also. I don't really know many natureish things to do in LA besides for going to the beach, I usually shop when I'm there.
What else are you considering doing while you are there? More input would help alot. There are so many things to do in Los Angeles. I also would prescribe printing out directions to everywhere and make sure you have an alternate route to get to your destination at all times incase of highway construction. Getting lost in LA is not fun, especially when you get stuck in a bad area. If this is not your first trip to Los Angeles what did you do in former trips?

One more nature thing to do: Huntington Library and Botanical Garden. Google it - it's spectacular.

Sorry for the semantics deb. haha If you don't mind telling, are you arriving/departing early/late? Also, where are you staying? This might make it easier to suggest things in your time frame.

Here's what I'd do...
16th - Arrive. Head to Santa Monica (promenade, etc). Around noon or so, head to Venice and stay for a couple hours. Then head on down to your hotel. Get settled, then go to Manhattan Beach; its a great place to be around sunset, VERY nice. If you are still going this late, check out Hermosa.
17th - Disney, all day I assume. I'd leave a little early, and check out Seal Beach and Long Beach that day, since they are close.
18th - Old town Pasadena, then head straight west. Universal City is fun for a good half day or so, then you could jump over the hill (through the canyons), and check out all the hollywood area. If you wanted, you could shoot over to Sunset and have a nice dinner somewhere.
19th - I'd spend your last day at some relaxing places. I'd get up early and go to the Getty. Then, shoot over to Griffeth Park, and then back to the beach(near the airport), until you need to check in...
My first trip like this to LA was about like this.
