Compton
Hey so Im planning to go somewhere this weekend, and I do not have a car so I have to use the bus.
And to go where I need to go, I have to make a transfer from bus to rail, and this rail station happens to be right up in Compton (Metro Blue Line).
As long as Ive been alive I've heard nothing but bad news about Compton. Is it safe for me to walk from the bus stop to the rail station? I am not black keep in mind.

just keep to yourself and you'll be fine. i'm white and have ridden the blue line many times and i've never had any issues. the same goes for the green line, which also goes through some unsavory neighborhoods.

Carry a gat, and whatever you do, DO NOT wear RED or BLUE...............not even blue jeans, or red hair. People get smoked for that.

As long as you stick to the main streets and dont start anything with the gangsters youll be fine.
By the way, where are you walking from and what station are you heading to?

Just don't punch a gangster in the face and you should be fine. "They smell fear...." that's true. It's disrespectful to fear someone you haven't met (unless they are threatening you). It is extremely rare (struck by lightning rare--not sure on the exact stats though) to be attacked anonymously. It's about attitude and respect in all walks of life (in my humble experience in the ATL). Obviously the rules are different for women (unless they are bad-ass women--my favorites). If you are scared, it is scary.

it should not be a problem. but where exactly are you walking? or where are you takin the bus? i ride the bus and rails very frequently through most places posters here hope to never be. i have never had a problem. a quick tip: stand next to old people. or ladies with strollers. there was a shooting by the compton blue line station. the intended targets were some thugs. they got them. you stand next to them, they might get you inadvertently. just be aware of your surroundings.

Did you ever take the trip to Compton.....I was visiting there a few weeks ago with my sis ...we went down memory lane...to bad downtown Compton is totally gone...it was a fun town...we were born and raised in Compton and left in 1969....my senior year n H.S. ...we lived right on Willowbrook and school street ..directly across from the railroad tracks...now there is the blue line and all you see is people and trains..can't even sit on the porch without people staring at you...we passed by the house on Willowbrook....When we grew up it was mixed races and we knew no dfferent....still the white were mostly on the east side of Compton by the time I was a teenager....the schools were already intergrated with one school Whaley just changing..it had been mostly a whte school....we had fun summer days and dances at the park as teenagers....am glad though our parents moved us out when they did..because things really start to change come the 70's.....We walked barefoot in the summer and we were able to walk into stores shoeless...I have fond memories...it is safe to walk ..but why would you unless you know someone there or have had a history ....the downtown is gone and so much change from the old..the postoffice is still standing though on Compton and Willowbrook Ave.

The bus stop is right next to the train station. It's actually one of the shadier stops in the entire Metro rail system. Guys sit on the bus benches all day and look to be up to no good. Drugs is my guess. Guys sell day passes at the end of the ramp and ask you for yours. Two people were shot at at that bus stop a few months ago. Probably just a couple of weeks after the OP. Sheriff's showed up for a while, but it seems to be going back to normal.

People who say stuff like this don't deserve to speak.
