And top firms do not recruit at less well known universities. Goldman Sachs will recruit at Columbia, Wharton, etc. The will NOT recruit at Cal State Bakersfield or Montclair State University, irregardless of your grades.

I went to Columbia and worked for a fortune 50 firm, I can tell you in recruiting we went to specific schools only.
I do know that they do it like that. Then you just need to get your butt up and go there yourself instead of waiting for someone to call you.
There are many other companies that provide good jobs.. not just Goldman Sachs etc. Please.

@FreeSpirit2219: Now I'm unskilled...but I haven't even finished school yet.

To all: I forgot to mention that I'm aiming for the "Master of Business Administration" degree. So, please don't think that I'll try it as an unskilled worker.
You can see some don't know that the economy is "nicht sehr gut" pretty much anywhere. No reason at all to burry one's head in the sand and give up on it.

I am german but they don't like foreign languages here Last time I got a PM telling me it's not allowed. But yes.. Ich spreche deutsch

Don't go for MBA/financial type jobs. There are 10's of thousands of Americans from good graduate schools being laid off. Even though the price of oil is temporarily down energy companies like mine in Houston are continuing to hire young petroleum, chemical, mechanical engineers and geologists/geophysicists to replace a very greying work force (average age for those jobs is around 50). Having a degree from a good German undergrad university and US master's degree (best schools University of Texas, University of Calif, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Indiana, NY-Binghamton, Columbia/Lamont-Doherty, CalTech, MIT, Michigan, Miami Fl, Nevada Mackay School of Mines, Colorado School of Mines) won't just likely get you a $70,000/yr job, it will guarantee it! Make sure to get a summer internship, though, to make connections and prove your English-speaking ability. BTW, your written is great - better than mine!

Funny.. I think Uncle Sam does a great job "selling" the American Dream. Especially to foreginers ie Canadians, Europeans who sell themselves.

The truth is that the real "jobs" are in countries that are less appealing.

Yes. I know.
But fair warning from a born native...skills are nice, but you can't do much with them once the bad water takes effect! Save your money and time. Knowing this if I were you, I would definitely move somewhere else.
JMO, it's up to you.

... The point I was making is if you want to work for a TOP FIRM you have to take into account where you go for your MBA... of course you can get jobs elsewhere but if it matters to you where you work, chose your Uni carefully... Most people who get MBAs are concerned about careers (else why get one) and firms that hire them... Period.

The median expected salary for a typical Portfolio Manager in the United States is $100,859, and the median expected salary for a typical Human Resources Director in the United States is $140,996.

These are good jobs. Telling me they all went to a Top 10 College? I don't think so.
There is nothing wrong with encouraging a person to go to a good university... I am not saying everyone has to go to Harvard, but there is NOTHING WRONG with encouraging people to get the best education that they can afford and obtain. And there is a reason why people go for the best MBAs, higher salaries help pay off student debts quicker (for example average Columbia MBA salary for an 06 graduate is 92,000 NOT counting the bonus versus 62,500 for Montclair State)..... and the better schools will have the endowment to help students afford their tuition... though I am not sure how much a Berkeley or UCLA can offer for financial assistance since they are state universities..
