I plan on moving to California.
I'm 20 and I live at home
Life is pretty depressing so I thought, how about a change?
I plan on getting a job and saving up then moving there when I have enough money because well it seems everything is in California.
How much money do you think is good enough to start out with?

If you're depressed where you are now, chances are you'll be just as depressed in California. Probably more so once you have to support yourself.

I agree with this. As great as Los Angeles is, the daily working life really does take a toll on you. I couldn't imagine surviving here if I wasn't in a great state of mind.

Enough money for six months of expenses at the very least. How much are you planning to spend on rent, and what kind of work are you qualified for?

What kind of work do you do? What is your housing budget? Would you be living by yourself or with roommates? Do you have a car? Will you be attending college?
It's really hard to answer you until you give more information. LA (or any major city) is too varied to be able to give you a quick answer with any degree of accuracy.

If you aren't qualified for work, you won't find any. There are thousands of highly-qualified and skilled workers here who don't even have a job.
