No, I lived in LA for almost 19 years and never have I seen daytime high at 30F. It's quite comfortable here during the winter. As for the 50s in Santa Monica, I personally don't think that's cold. Why people say it's cold at 50? Santa Monica as well as the entire West Coast has cool summers (SANTA MONICA PIER, CALIFORNIA - Climate Summary), cooler than the rest of the nation, even cooler than Portland, ME (Climate Information for Portland*-*Maine*-*Northeast*-*United States*-*Climate Zone). Most people that come to Santa Monica come during the summer expecting a warm summer day. When they're surprised to find 60 degree weather with cloud and wind in the summer, they're perception is "it's freezing". I've seen this from my friends from Germany and France who are used to the cold, but end up shivering on their summer visits. You might even experience this while driving from Burbank while it's in the 90s and only 60 at the beach. I hope that answers your question on why it can seem cold in Santa Monica. It's not really cold in terms of temperature, but it will feel cold after factoring wind, amount of sun, water vapor, and time of year. If you live in LA, you'll get used to it fast. By then, LA is your playground.

From what the replies are I still think it is warm 50's 60's during the day thats nice and comfortable for me. Even if it goes down to the 40's tonight I won't mind it is only at night anyway so it is okay. Frostythe2nd you said it will never be 30 during the day and thats what I want to hear. The sun in California is pretty strong anyway. My uncle says it is very cold right now but I keep saying that Californians have a different idea of cold.

Also Breaking News a jet crashed in San Diego. Damn thats scary. Other Breaking News I was just watching the news and the meteorologist gave the run down on the temperature tonight. Tonight there will be a low of 20 or 15 degrees but the meteorologist said and I quote "it will feel like the temperature is in the single digits" God dammit! I hate this freezing cold these days. In California no one will ever have to worry about freezing to death which is one of the main reasons I cannot wait to go over there especially in the winter. Today was truly a cold day here in the city I was out for a little while bundled up with so much clothes but I still froze my ass. These days you are just better off staying inside. If it gets any colder I can get frost bite on my ass. So once again I say this California will never be as cold as New York. The weather is one of the main reasons why I am going to move there along with a bunch of others but the weather is one of the main reasons.

It was actually warmer than usual today here in New York you did not need to bundle up like most days. Still I feel like leaving Santa Monica is so much better.

I was checking the Accuweather.com forecast this past week looking at the temperatures for Los Angeles the weather there is horrible right now it is raining and the high is in the 40's they say it is pretty cold right now. By next Friday the meteorologist said that the weather should go back to a high of 60 and a low of 40 this seems pretty good. Today the temperature has a high of 58 but the real feel is 62 which sounds great. This week does sound cold in Los Angeles my uncle said that an east coast guy like me will like it. I mean next month I might be moving there I hope the weather gets better either way I will not have to worry about snow it is supposed to snow here next week ugh I need to get out of here. By the way how is the feeling of Christmas in Southern California since it does not snow and you don't need a coat I am sure the feeling is much different.

Today is barely 60F & last night was in the 40's. The rain hasn't started yet but some cold polar storms will move thru LA this week. This is as cold as it gets w/ frost reported in parts of the San Fernando valley this morning.

Just check here for weather: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/

The funny thing, for me, is that a 40° night here feels colder than a 40° night in New York. I came out here (L.A.) for a visit last March and -- even though I'd been sleeping at home with the window open and only a light blanket -- I found myself chilled even though I wore a complete set of jammies and slept under a blanket and a heavy bedspread.

I live here now and, as I mentioned earlier, I go out without a jacket -- but have more blankets on the bed than I did in NYC. I have no idea why the nights feel colder ...

I think it has to do with the humidity. When its 40 in the valley, it is tends to be quite damp. So it feels much colder than it is.

It is very cold in LA these days but the New York weather is actually warmer than usual either way I would rather be there than here.
