Hey guys here in New York on December 20,2008 it is freezing and yesterday was even colder especially at night. The temperatures I work the night shift at my job and I froze my ass last night. I am not sure if I am moving to Santa Monica like I sad before there is a good chance though. The wether in Los Angeles is beautiful compared to New York over here it is below freezing you see this is what I am talking about I really hate this wether it is too damn cold I cannot take it I also have a head cold right now. I really want to get the hell out of here. My uncle and other family say it is cold in California right now. I think they are wrong because a high of 62 is not cold and a low of 45 is nothing especially right now the North East is freezing it is a freezing waste land. I will tell what is cold a high of 20 and a low of 10 thats cold and even though it is in the 20's is feels a lot colder than that especially if you are near the East River or Hudson. Now I know what you guys are saying that I keep bitching and complaining and keep saying the same stuff over and over again. I am sorry but this wether really pisses me off. Not to mention that there is snow a couple of inches not to mention it also rained not to mention the snow is frozen and hard and stuck to the ground not to mention I slipped like 5 times I did not fall and hurt myself but it looked like I was dancing hip hop. Oh my God I hate this wether so much I wish I were in Santa Monica right now. Even if it is 40 degrees in Santa Monica it kicks the ass out of this wether. Okay guys Happy Holiday's Merry Christmas I wonder what Christmas is like in LA without all the snow and cold wether like the North East oh well guess I will never know.

It's 7 degrees tonight in Colorado Springs and I'm loving it. Too bad I have to return to So. Cal.
The weather on the Front Range is exhilarating, cold and snowing one day, then bright and sunny the next. Beautiful place to live comfortably on a modest income and it does have it's night life.

You're absolutely right. I can't stand this weather either, and I too have a head cold, which is on the brink of developing into bronchitis thanks to a relentless postnasal drip. I got sick a couple weeks ago during one of our famous 70 degrees to 10 degrees back-and-forth shifts. Now that I'm good and sick, we get 6 inches of snow dumped on us, which I have to shovel in the below zero windchill, which aggrivates my lungs even more.
Radical Paul- the scenery is gorgeous in the front range but that climate sounds barely any better than the northeast. It's more sunny I'm sure. But the wild temperature swings make people sick, and then when the bitter cold sets in, it slows the healing process for those with respiratory problems. Yuck.
The only problem with staying healthier in California is air pollution, but my lungs tell me New York is worse (humidity and coal-burning plants have a lot to do with it), so it's a moot point. I too can't wait to get out there.

It's Radical Raul, I'm on the front range right now, it may be cold, but it's also sunny and bright, it will get up to 40 today. Overall the climate is mild and dry here, very, very, underrated and the cost of living and quality of life is exceptional. The downside there is not much work here compared to L.A.
The place that gets kick your ass cold is Las Vegas when it in the 20's during the day with the winds howling out of Utah. Lived there for 3 years, froze my ass off in the winters. I also had a tennis partner from New York who told me it was colder in Las Vegas than where he came from.
Yeah Jaymum it is so freaking cold this week. I work nights and it is so damn cold especially the wind hitting your face makes you feel frozen. It was down to like 10 degrees this morning like at six o'clock I was outside running home so I do not freeze to death. Right now it is in the 20's but it will definitely go down to the teens I hate this whether. The snow is already all ugly and in the way. Upstate even colder than here in the city but the whether is only getting worse like I said before I might move to Santa Monica in January. These days it is in the 60's in Santa Monica it gets colder at night but is nothing compared to this sub zero temperature of New York.

I feel your pain! For the past two years I was in grad school at City College, and classes ended around 10:00. From the CCNY campus, I took the M100 bus uptown, and from December through February it would be COLD waiting at the bus stop. Even with my long wool coat, scarf, hat and mittens, I couldn't stop shivering (brrrrrrrrrrrr).

I think you have been able to tell by this thread that the weather anywhere in SoCal is going to be more tolerable than NYC. As has been noted, distance from the coast makes a huge difference all year round. Temperatures closer to the coast don't vary nearly as much as those inland (hot AND cold). Santa Monica would probably seem like heaven to you. Even if you moved to Bell (as you indicated in an earlier post) you will rarely see lows below 40. Good luck!
Hey guys please help me out I am moving to LA in less than a year and I keep asking people the same question DOES IT GET COLD IN LA CALIFORNIA!!!!
I get the same answer YES! My mom tells me that it does get cold in California!
I always thought it was warm all year round! COLD! please some one tell me this is not true!
I am from New York to me cold is 30 degrees thats cold!
I want to know if it goes below 30 degrees on average in the months of December to May like it does here in New York?
My uncle says it gets cold but not as cold as New York. My uncle has been living there for 50 years so I am pretty sure I can trust him. I know it does not snow in LA.
I am moving with my family in LA for a ton of reasons but one of them is the weather here in NY will destroy me. It gets so cold I can not take it.
I went to visit LA in the August that just passed every day was extremely warm but at night it got cool my California buddies were like "hey man you are not cold" I was like no! 60 degrees is cold? are you kidding? it was no less than 60 sometimes 50 I mean one needs a jacket or a sweater but nothing more than that. In New York people walk in short when it is 60 degrees thats a treat!
I have never visited LA in any other seasons besides June thru August before so I personally don't know how cold it gets.
So please I need someone who lives in LA for more than a year to tell me how cold does it really get. And if you are familiar with New York weather does it kick New York's ass in having nice weather?
Ok let me be more specific do you need a coat to go outside in the months of December thru April like here in NY?
Does it get unbearably cold like New York? what's the coldest it will ever get? and how often does it get that cold?
So please someone from LA tell me how cold it gets and I am not talking about the mountains please I know about how cold it gets and it snows up there blah blah!
Also what are the best months for truly great fantastic warm weather in which I am in desperate need of knowing?
I am sorry to be a loser and ask this and I know I sound like a maniac but I am stressed and I really want to answer this question just to get it off my mind. SO please share your knowledge of how cold it gets in LA. Thank You so much for your help.
Also if you know how cold does it get in Anaheim and Burbank. Thanks.
I awoke from the cold the other night, only to find out my air con had gone "turbo".
