Iranians come from a country call Iran.
Japanese come from a country called Japan.
Germans come from a country called Germany.

Am I supposed to keep track of every little ethnic sect in every country?

And I've found people who use the term "Persian" most most are just trying to disassociate themselves from the country where they're originally from that just happens to be the one that took hostages in 1979, funds terrorism today, and vows to obliterate Israel. Sorry, if your birth certificate and immigration papers say you're from Iran, that's where you're from.

I guess I would have said that before I knew better, too, but to lump them all in as Iranians isn't right. You could at least say Iranian-American, but even that's odd. There are more than one group. My business partner was born in Tehran, but he's Assyrian. The Assyrians ruled the world thousands of years ago, now they have no country, but they are Christians, not Muslims, and have nothing in common with Persians except sharing a common birth place much of the time. Most Persians and Assyrians in the U.S. don't identify with Iran, they left for a reason, and most don't want to be called Iranians or Iranian-Americans. They want to be called Persians. There are Persians from Iran, there are Armenians from Iran, and there are Assyrians from Iran.
That is a great explanation, Jonathan.

Again not Los Angeles, but Oxnard/Port Hueneme is loaded with Filipinos - many of whom have Navy/Point Mugu/Port Hueneme careers.

Thanks city forum dudes!
Not Mexican or Asian would be places like Oak Park, Calabasas and parts of Westlake. Two totally different groups here. Very common to have an Asian population in wealthier areas with a good school system all over the country, not just Ca. But I think historically, the least diverse areas have been in pockets of the Conejo Valley, maybe Pasadena, Malibu, Palos Verdes, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades. It's been awhile so things may have changed.

Dont get out much do you? First of all - do you know anyone who is from Iran? If you do, they are all proud to have Iranian background but refer to themselves as Persian. Now, also, the only people who vows to obliterate Israel is the Supreme Ayatolla and his mouthpiece Admanadjad. Most people living in Iran are not in favor of attacking Israel.

Also, 99% of the Persian/Iranians you meet here are all Jewish. Did you know that? They are Jewish and usually (at least the many that I know) visit Israel each year.

If I want to experience "cultures" I travel to foreign countries.

Because, there's going to a Korean restaurant in a city that still feels like the USA, and alternatively going to a Korean restaurant in Koreatown in Los Angeles. Feeling like a foreigner in any city in the USA is not what I consider an adventure.

Diversity has its limitations, like everything.

haha. What about Atwater Village, Eagle Rock?

Echo Park is great. Only place I see hardcore cholos speeding down the street on fixie bikes.
