The Westside southwest of the 10-405 is mixed as well, especially in Venice, Westchester, and Palms even though Palms is east of the 405.

then there is hollywood, thats pretty mixed. so is LB. the east side is mostly latino, but it is gentrifying.

the southside is black and brown. some people(gangs) have racial beef, but thats gang related and minimal.

the cities you mention, bell, SG actually are somewhat mixed. there is a strong arab community present. and people forget that being brown doesnt mean you are the same. the area has mexicans, pr's, south americans and CUBANS. it was the landing spot for cubans. and lets also not forget that cubans are black.

LA has a lot of people. some areas are mixed, some are not. but having designated areas like lil ethipoia, manila, tokyo or a thai town, korea town etc doesnt mean that people dont mix.

jack is def exagerating.
i am a product of mixing.
and i see it everyday in LA.
i ride the blue line which cuts from downtown thru historic southcentral, thru florence, and watts and compton and ends in LBC. i get a good view of life round here.

people def mix.

Yes, it's true that you have Mexican gangs out there messing with blacks. But why would you be in those neighborhoods anyway? I have no reason to go into Boyle Heights (except for King Taco!), Glassell Park so I would consider myself OK. Pretty much like how Bensonhurst and Howard Beach was back in the day, why would you be around there?

Ok, why would I visit Boyle Heights or Glassell park? Ummm, maybe I might wanna see some friends from work, or date a woman over there perhaps? ANd u said the key words, Bensonhurst and Howard Beach BACK IN THE DAY! In LA this goes on present day. You ever been down to Harbor Gateway, let me jog your memory, 6 year old black kid shot in the head by Mexican Gang Bangers; or how bout this, 14 year old black girl killed by Mex gang in Harbor Gateway
Latino Gangbangers Shoot 6 Year Old Boy in Head for Being Black « Red Alerts

And lets not forget the 17 year old black football player killed for no reason by Mex gang members.
I dont make this stuff up, i watch the news. But this is common, when i bring this up to most Native Angelinos, they never wanna admit it b/c its a painful truth, but then most have never lived in any other state either so I cant win this argument.

I know of those incidents, I'm not entirely oblivious to the situation. C'mon man, you're not the only one who lives in L.A. and keeps up with the news. And yes, I do agree that it is a serious problem that should be rectified, I won't argue with that. I'm not going to get to deep into it since that is another topic for another time.

And maybe I'm telling you about those areas so you won't end up like Yusuf Hawkins. You know, being naive and all. You should know about that being a such a renaissance man yourself.

In regards to the topic, I'm just saying that L.A. City/County isn't as segregated as you'd like to think it is. I would gladly put it up against any other city/county in a heartbeat.

As a black man, I have no problem with the city's diversity. I admit that I would be uncomfortable if I traveled alone in East LA or anywhere that was predominantly of one group.

If I hang anywhere in LA, its West LA, parts of the Valley, and Hollywood. I'm not an Uncle Tom by the way.

since you keep up with the news then you should know that black on black crime and violence as well as brown on brown violence is more prevalent than intra racial conflict.

and blacks also kills browns. innocent ones. it happens.
sometimes it makes the news, sometimes it doesnt.

these kids being killed by gang members (cheryl green and such) make the news because its not very common. and because it is more tragic.

thats all it is.

there are lots of tragic cases, like the kid from the valley who ended up in compton wearing the wrong colors.

he was killed by some crips for wearing red.

just like jamal shaw was killed by some cholo for wearing red.

it happens.
