I browsed internet and I found this website. I am trying to get help and save the old maple trees on the street I live on now.

i live in Temple city California. the houses on this street were built in 1947 and so were the maple trees (i am not sure about the name though). just recent 1-2 years, we (including our neighbors) found out that our city are removing trees one by one every other 2 months. We suspect that our city is doing this to avoid the turmoil to remove all trees at one time. the city were discussing about removing all trees on our street about 2 years go, because they considered the street was hard to sweep and clean. this is a very short street, and so far about 8 of the same trees were cut off.

I think we need to take action to against the city's ignorance cutting trees for high maintenance fee reasons. this is out of my guessing though.

i don't know where to turn to about saving these street trees. can somebody give me directions?

From the temple city web site:

CITY COUNCIL meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers in the Civic Center, located at 5938 Kauffman Avenue.

I would send a letter to all councilmembers asap addressing this issue, and advise you will be attending the next meeting. Follow up with a telephone call and request the issue to be included on the next meetings agenda. Organize a petitition. Then show up to the meeting with as many people as possible and take some nice pictures with you.

Is it so bad and unkept that the city, as a last resort, is cutting down the trees.. What do the other neighbors say or do?

Usually trees are removed due to age, liability hazards from falling weak limbs, or disease, rot, mold, infection, infestation etc.

Default That is very odd thing for the city to do

because they require a homeowner to have 35% landscape [mod cut: no advertising] I imagine maple trees have these little balls that fall off every season. You maybe jogging and trip over a ball. Its a liability issue. Also I had a tree branch crash down on my vehicle parked on the street. I had $5800 of damages. Thank God no one was in the Car!

Either write to the city council or go to a meeting. I have a gut feeling they have their reasons, liability is probably an issue. I do not beleive the city would just, for no reason decide to cut down a bunch of trees. There may be more to this than you know. That is why attending a meeting might give you more insight.
