Santa Clarita pros:
  • Metrolink commuter train runs through it to L.A. Other commute options, such as express commuter buses into L.A. also exist, City of Santa Clarita, CA - Transit.
  • Excellent bicycle network. You can get around for miles by without having to share street lanes with cars, City of Santa Clarita, CA - Trails: Welcome!
  • Generally a very safe city for its size, population 200,000 (add 100,000 considering the unincorporated surrounding area, Canyon Country, Stevenson Ranch, Castaic, etc.).

Santa Clarita cons:
  • Very, very, very hot during summer.
  • Jobs are limited.
  • In spite of the transit and bicycle options, urban walking trails and very select location like Town Center, SCV is a car-based, suburban area where traffic is often exceedingly difficult and unfriendly to pedestrians.

One other con: There is basically one way out (south) to jobs.

My husband it's looking for jobs at Los Angeles, because in Santa Clarita the opportunities are few. Just to have an idea, how much time will take to go from Santa Clarita to Los Angeles? I already know about traffic issues so, I guess commuting will not be 15 minutes.

I can make it to LAX in 1 hour on a good day. If you search for any of the local stations like abc7 or one of those, they will have a traffic page that shows the speed. For example, right now at the 5 and 14 connector it is showing 21MPH going south.

Could be really bad depending on what part of Los Angeles (actually just about anything south of 101-134) and how early in the morning you can beat traffic. While one hour of commuting may sound doable, it would be very unhealthy.

Well, my husband is a Software Engineer. Can you tell me which areas are both near to Santa Clarita and suitable for that kind of jobs?

Our budget is $150k - $250K.
If you are already dead set on Santa Clarita (and if I were you I'd look elsewhere), then the best bet is to find out where dad can find a job. Getting a place to live is the easy part - however, in that budget Santa Clarita will be tough. Find a job, then find a place to live. In your case, find a job and suitable medical services, then find a home.

What about these links I posted? Did you check them out? What did they yield?

What about a lower priced place to live that has tons of jobs? That's what I did. You may find the medical services you need.

hello everyone... we are in the process of moving to santa clarita and I was wondering if you know of any great agencies/conctact person that I could look into for a job... since we are moving, i will be too far from my office and I will need to start searching for a new job closer to home! I work as a Sr. Behavior Specialist/supervisor, and I am in the process of getting my BCBA and finishing my Psy.D. in ABA... I see many jobs in the LA area, but haven't found anything in Santa Clarita... I am open for NPA, NPS, public schools... and also an an idependent consultant...
