The factthat you think that people on a relocation discussion board can tell you if you can join LAFD rather than going to LAFD itself answers the question. For the sake of us who count on Firefighters, please find something else to do with your life.

Join the Coast Guard or Navy, they love to reform drug abusers.

Fair enough. I have contacted LAFD. If you had read the posts, you may have picked up on that. Based on the preliminary background check, I was told that I may be disqualified for those reasons. I posted here only because this site was on the top of a google search displaying multiple discussions on joining LAFD. This is one of many ways I have been researching. Just a note, If you want to try and make somebody else feel stupid, do a quick proofread so you don't look sloppy yourself ("The factthat you think..."). You might want to try Mobsters on Myspace. I hear thats a good place for kids that want to talk trash to strangers.

I dont know about the hiring process but GlendaleFire Dept USED to do "scheduled" drug testing ! How stupid is that ? What happened to "random" ? I knew of 1 Captain and 1 Engineer who did drugs on a
regular basis and when their turn for their "scheduled drug test" would come up, they would stop their habit for however length of time beforehand so that it would come out clean . I seriously hope they have changed things , I dont need any Engineer that drives a fire engine, totally stoned racing down the street on a call .

I'd wait until your most recent felony drug use is 5+ years old before trying to get hired. I don't believe Fire uses polygraph, like all local LE agencies, but still. Its something you want to be up front about – I’m sure Fire does background on their potential hires, and if something comes up that you lied about, you’re done.

I say go for it,if you've been in the film industry for nine years then bending the truth will be second nature.
I'm quite interested as to what you did in the film industry for nine years without a degree most of the guys I know in the industry without degrees are tradesmen and all very happy with their lives.
Its the only industry in the world where you can be a carpenter or electrician and have world class “babe” girlfriends.
Anyway if you want a change I say go for it,if you get found out and fired then write a screenplay about the whole experience.
Sounds like a winner to me!
