Transfer to Wilmington area
I may be looking at a transfer to Wilmington...where should I look to live. Single-late 30s, like some restaurants and pubs that I can walk to. Also I travel frequently so home security is important. Would I target Long Beach, if so where, or something like Redondo Beach. I would like a commute of 30 min or less if possible.

The South Bay or San Pedro. Long Beach is close by also. Do not move to Wilmington

one of the best pubby areas is seal beach, which is more or less a straight shot up the coast to wilmington. would probably be a 20minute commute on surface, maybe less, probably not more.
id also consider pretty much anywhere in coastal long beach. naples has some good bars. belmont shore has some good bars. etc
the south bay would also work, but travel over the vincent thomas bridge towards wilmington is a major pain in the butt during rush hour

Redondo Beach is a good place to live. Rents are pricey though and go up the closer you get to the beach. Where do you live now?

Sorry...single late 30s, no kids that I know of. Currently own townhouse around 250k. Would like to buy and I can move up to 300-350k if needed.

My recommendations for you would be:
Belmont Shore/Belmont Heights/Naples areas
Seal Beach
Redondo Beach(maybe Manhattan Bch-but the drive may be too far)
However, these areas that were mentioned are probably in the $400k plus range
More affordable, yet acceptable options could be:
Torrance(South, West)
Signal Hill
Lakewood
