Theater Director Resigns Amid Gay-Rights Ire By JESSE McKINLEY
Published: November 12, 2008
SACRAMENTO — The artistic director of the California Musical Theater, a major nonprofit producing company here in the state’s capital, resigned on Wednesday in the face of growing outrage over his support for a ballot measure this month that outlawed same-sex marriage in California.

it's sad that a guy can't vote the way he wants without having to resign because of the hate aimed his way. Seems like discrimination to me.

same thing happened to the owner of a custom gun company that endorsed obama in a newspaper.

if you're in a position of power in an organization that has an interest in something, dont come out against that issue if you want to keep your job. you putself at risk by being shortsighted

Since blacks and latinos voted yes on 8 at a higher percentage than whites, I wonder if future protests will target South Central or E. Los Angeles.

How did choosing a lifestyle allow someone to become part of a protected class? Maybe we should make individuals that are married part of a protected class and say that marriage is only between a man and a woman.

No one is stopping anyone from getting married. What is being said is that a man can only marry a woman. Being gay doesn't keep you from joining the party. You can still get married. Just to someone of the opposite sex. No one is keeping you from that. This in no way takes any ones civil rights away from them. You can choose not to get married because the opposite sex doesn't turn you on, but no one is keeping you from getting married. That is a choice you are making.

This whole 'majority decided' B.S. is for the birds. Fear and blinding hate are the only reasons people would inhibit others from being truely happy. People deserve equal rights and those of you who voted for Prop 8 deserve to loose your rights, just to see how it would feel. Homosexuals marrying would never effect you. The owner of this resturant makes her living from the money the primarily gay patrons spend in her establishment. they should boycott her.

the guy not only voted FOR, but donated $1,000 to the Yes on 8 ppl. this man didn't even care that he would taking away rights from his lesbian sister, much less his so-called friends and associates that happened to be gay. out of curiosity, did you feel sympathy for the dixie chicks when they dissed W a few years ago?
