The movie Friday starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker takes place in Watts. They mention Normandy and Western.

Terminator 2 shows parts of the SFV and they show a mall there, I forgot which one. They also mention how John Conner goes to I think West Lake or Sherman Oak Junior high, or some other valley neighborhood named junior high.

Terminator 3 shows scenes in Beverly Hills.

Training Day starring Denzel Washington showcases Downtown LA, and South LA.

The classic is Sunset Boulevard. Great film.

I like Double Indemnity too, though it's not as good as the book. Not much is.

Day of the Locust is pretty odd, with patchy acting, and doesn't really work, but it captures the mad desperation of people on the fringes of the movie business like nothing else. Two completely demented, unforgettable scenes.

Oh, and Devil in a Blue Dress. Great scene on Santa Monica pier. Again, the book is even better.

T1 had some 80s club scene, probably on the west side. Pulp fiction showcases random parts of the basin.
