Here is what the sky looked like in South Pas this afternoon. Note the position of the sun - definitely not sunset - but the sky color was very intense. We did not experience falling ash or smoke smell - however, my dog is going around sniffing the air now.
Sandy, your idea of donating to the Red Cross is fantastic.

Amazing how far ash can travel. But it is very light.
There was ash on my front porch and driveway yesterday morning; it's probably still there.
It looks like the winds are finally dying out. haven't had a gust over 40 mph since yesterday afternoon.

I have a question. I live in Diamond bar and last night I took a late night walk (oddly around the Diamond Bar High which is now the evacuation area) to clear my mind and I noticed that it was UNUSUALLY quiet. I mean I could hear a pin drop!
So scientifically speaking, does dry air, which has less density, and possibly the ash cause sound waves to travel faster through the air?

Good question [hope somebody can answer it
Today is downright horrible: hot [near 90F] and all the smoke from the Orange county fires has drifted northwest into the San Gabriel valley & LA basin. Air quality is very bad so stay inside.

YOU should remember to read some books on Seismology (the study of earthqaukes). If you do, you will realize that not one seismologist (or geologist) will say there is an "earthquake season."
So are you going to tell me how fires "trigger" earthquakes?
