There are always foreshocks before the mainshock. California has been having 4+ foreshocks in the past week. On January 22 we will have a full moon. Be prepared.

Didn't see if this was posted upstream on this thread ....
But the moon may actually have an effect on earthquakes.
The moon is much smaller than the sun but it is much closer. If the sun was on one side of the earth and the moon on the other, their gravitational effects could "pull" the earth in opposite directions. Its gravitational force is proportional to its mass and inversely proportional to the square of the its distance from the earth. I'm sure some grad student at Cal-Tech has researched this. Maybe there is a paper on it somewhere.
Here's one writeup on it.
Can the Moon Cause Earthquakes?

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that the 1906 San Francisco quake most likely relieved enough pressure so that the next big quake will not be on the section that broke in 1906.
Is that to say that another quake in that same exact area is unlikely? Is that how earthquakes work? - once they hit a particular region, they usually don't strike there again? Just trying to understand the quakes...patterns...etc...

EQ 'season' in CA is spring, or was...
According to one scientist, California's earthquake 'season' was in the spring during the decades approaching the great 1906 earthquake. To read a summary of his paper, google: earthquake seasonality

We got hit, alright, but from above, not below

Well, January 22 came and went in Southern California with a thunder. Really, we did get hit -- as predicted by kidcanaduh -- but not from below the ground, rather from above. Storm-watch 2008 is upon us with drenching rain, thunder, water spouts, and tornado warnings.

You're not paying attention. There are still two full moons before March 21.
Fall begins on Sept 21.
My forecast is for a quake in earthquake season 2008. Fall or winter.
Lots of time left before I get it wrong.
But I know the rountine.
Laughs, mocking and jokes. Then, when it hits, 10 threads pop up about the quake damage and deaths.
