Well I'm just referring to my neighborhood. There are plenty of smaller affordable homes.

the city will become famous soon enoughthe city will become famous soon enough
Well, come to think of it. When my parents got our home in Templeton, Ca (country-side of California) it is and currently the only family community in North County still growing. My dad was working at the youth authority and managing 2 apartments until he retired. So maybe my wife might need to be working too. Who knows.

I am positive though that I want to be a city planner or retail developer. And all those jobs are in southern california.

Depending on which college I go to determines where I will live since if I intern for a city there is almost a 100% chance I will be making a full-time career for that city I started interning for.

I still am not quite sure which of the 3 commuter schools is best.

San Jose State, San Francisco State, or CSU Northridge. San Jose State has the better masters program, and the area has less than crime than the LA area. San Francisco State has the nice weather and is in the cool city, but I have heard education there and social life isn't the best. Then I hear CSU Northridge is the best. Okay social life, and okay education, and it has the nicest campus.

Any preference on these three schools?

All my info comes from:

Is Agoura Hills, Ca still a suburb of Los Angeles? I guess if i can't afford to get a small condo in Calabasas for a family of 3, then I could get a small condo in Agoura Hills. Maybe Agoura Hills could get a nice shopping center like the Calabasas Commons shopping center some day.

What is Agoura Hills like compared to Calabasas? I can see there are 7 furniture galleries - is that the Agoura Hills Commercial Center? Is there at least a movie theater, Albertsons, Vons, Rite-Aid, and Longs Drugs in that city?

Yeah, maybe for Agoura Hills with their Old Agoura neighborhood.

From what I gather....

Agoura Hills has a Vons and Rite Aid. 7 furniture galleries. a school. a movie theater. a suburb of LA. warm weather. high population density. less retail

Calabasas has Albertsons and Longs Drugs. the Commons lifestyle shopping center. a school. a movie theater. a suburb of LA. warm weather. more retail. lower population density (more McMansions?)

do you agree both are still outer suburbs of LA in the san fernando valley? both are within 30 minutes of the los angeles city limits. i would say oak park, thousand oaks, simi valley, and westlake village are not suburbs of LA. but malibu, agoura hills, calabasas, and hidden hills are suburbs.

I'd rephrase that "Agoura Hills is a bit west. Calabasas is different."

Rural? Maybe in the 1950s or 1960s when this photo below was taken:

Here's the eastern side of what is now Agoura Hills at Highway 101 and Lake Lindero looking east, 1966

Here's Highway 101 (before it was realigned as the Ventura Freeway) at the Calabasas grade looking west, 1950s. No ugly car dealerships.

and looking east into the San Fernando Valley

Yep, this is Agoura Road looking west from about Las Virgenes, 1908. Right now there's a Jack in the Box on the right side of this photo.

The entrance to Hidden Hills, 1957

Four Bedroom Homes on one acre in Hidden Hills, $27,500

Part of Calabasas (From Mulholland on in the east to the Calabasas grade) is in the SFV; Part of it isn't (From the Calabasas grade to the Liberty grade in the west).

Both are within ten minutes of Los Angeles City Limits which is right about at Mulholland the the 101 as you cross east from Calabasas into Woodland Hills.

I would say all of those towns mentioned above are suburban communities of the LA metro. The line blurs around the Conejo Grade and down into the Oxnard Plain. Malibu is less characteristic of this though.

Also, 100% of Westlake Village is in Los Angeles County. Those homes and businesses which are right on the lake that are in Ventura County are not Westlake Village. They are in Thousand Oaks. The county line bisects the lake.

so agoura hills is cheaper than calabasas? and is still a suburb? maybe i can find a small condo with 2 bedrooms and one bath at $200,000-250,000? i am planning to be working as a city planner for some suburb of LA one day. and then i plan to live in agoura hills and keep my future wife at home for our one kid. my parents will be helping me out with the down payment, and i think in a good 10 years we will be able to pay off a small condo.

i am glad that agoura hills at least has a theater, shopping center, commercial center, and school. and then it seems calabasas has a good amount of shopping centers too.
