Fantasm is on a distinguished road
Yes, gangs are basically everywhere... you also don't have to be poor to be a gang member. There are plenty of well off professionals who are apart of a gang.

No, its not like the movies, gang members dont come out in groups for the most part unless you are in an incredibly bad area but if you have internet access and a personal computer, I doubt you will be in these areas.

the Gangs are mainly a problem in bad neighborhoods. not poor neighborhoods but bad neighborhoods. the places you mentioned are probably not a problem...but just be careful anytime you see someone suspicious

HA! Not true!

I was stuck on the Santa Monica Pier from mid-night to 4am. The police wouldn't let anyone out. There was a shooting.

As for the OP, gangs are not after you personally, they are after rival gang members. If you happen to be caught in some cross-fire though it could be a problem.

I lived in Pasadena for a very long time and never worried about going out at night.

the Santa Monica Pier is dirty and dangerous...as are many beaches in Santa Monica. I guess I was referring to the South Bay beaches: PV, Manhattan, Hermosa, etc..

The Santa Monica Pier's main problem is all the homeless. But I have never run into any problems myself there or at the Promenade down the road from it. Venice is tons more dangerous and scummy.
