LA is good for the rich and the poor. Not so much for the middle class. Pardon my presumption, but as an attorney you'll do fine. You'll live in a clean safe neighborhood and your kids will go to good schools.
Give it a try.....it is a beautiful state, great weather, lots of fruits and nuts.

I'm sorry, but that is ridiculous. I understand what you are saying - but don't agree. Yes, I have a family.

To the OP - LA is beautiful. If you have a job making $200k in LA, you can live a wonderful lifestyle. Probably the housing will be more $$$ per square foot than in Texas - that should be your biggest difference.

heres a quick fact LA is great if u dont live anywhere near LA ppl who live here know what i mean but let me put it in perpecteive for those who want to come here wanna know why its the city of cars its becouse ppl here prefer the suburbs to the actual city and drive with thousands of others for hours to have that some come as far as fontana were house prices range from the 200k but have a 1 and 1/2 hour drive but traffic aint that bad if ur a native angeleno u get frustrated with traffic becouse u dont know the backstreets which are faster at some times

I think it depends on how much money you earn, what you do for a living, how flexible your schedule is.

I know a 2 people who bought their homes in the 1980's & 1990's, both work from home and earned less than $60K per year. they don't deal with traffic, run errands mid-day and only drive the freeways on weekends.

If you move here now, want a safe neighborhood to live, shop in, you need $200K to $300K annual salary.

My wife and I live comfortably on one income (less than $100k) and even manage to help some people who are worse off than us.

Often, here in Houston or when I was in law school, I meet people who are from L.A. or lived there. Everyone seems to hate living in the city! Maybe it's a biased sample because it is mostly people who are looking to get out but still.

The complains I hear are 1) horrible pollution 2) ridiculous cost of living for not very high q.o.l; 3) horrendous traffic, no mass transit, 4) illegals flooding the entire place.

Is it really that bad? I kind of like the idea of living in L.A. but I'm not sure if I'd be happy since I'm used to a certain quality of life.
It reads to me as though you were given accurate information.
