I am looking at a house that is just South of Olympic BTW Highland and Crenshaw. Right by the Queen Anne Rec Center.

The area LOOKS fine - but I thought I would put it out there. How safe is that area? I am just CLUELESS south of Wilshire...

Thanks in advance

This board is SOOOO helpful!

that is an okay area, nothing too positive or negative about it. the further south you get from olympic, the sketchier the area becomes. also, traffic on highland can get pretty backed up from around edgewood all the way up into Hollywood during the rush hour.

Although I don't have anything specific my instincts say this is not a great area. Not bad but maybe not worth it. Something about the Queen Anne Rec Center sticks out but I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's just the phrase rec center.

That's near or about Pico Union. Gang territory. From the graffiti I see there it is either MS or 18street gang(I see both gang's graffiti).

have you ever been to this neighborhood in question? Pico-union is miles away. the gang presence at olympic/highland, if there is one at all, is very minimal. your biggest issue would probably be the proximity to LA High, which isn' too far away.

Yes. I am there quite often.
He mentioned the queen anne rec center area. That center is in pico union and is in prime gang territory.

Queen Anne rec center is not in the pico/union area. It's about 3 miles west, north of Pico and west of Crenshaw.

I'm just going by the sign I see when I'm down there. A big official(City of Los Angles) "Pico Union" sign on Pico blvd just off of Rimpau.

You may be right, but someone needs to tell the City of LA.

the area in question is basically midtown, but new residents have taken to calling it "hancock park adjacent." the streets west of the high school are fine, but i can't vouch for the east side.

South and Southeast of the HS is where they start getting dicey. Mostly at night. Daytime doesn't seem to have many problems.
